What is a veneer?
A veneer is a thin shell of porcelain or composite that is bonded to the tooth to correct wear, irregularities, and discoloration. Small gaps are also an indication for placing a veneer.
How is a veneer placed?
Currently, there are two types of veneers: porcelain and composite.
Porcelain veneers are made in the dental laboratory. During the first appointment, the teeth are lightly ground down, and an impression is taken. At the next appointment, the veneers are fitted and placed using a bonding agent. Porcelain veneers are pre-pressed under high pressure and temperature. This makes them very strong, and they have all the characteristics of tooth enamel.
For a composite veneer, the tooth is pre-treated with a gel (etching gel). This is acidic, which roughens the enamel of the tooth, allowing the composite layer to bond better to the tooth.
Hoe lang gaat een facing mee?
Veneers last for many years. However, they can sometimes come loose or break due to certain circumstances. We see this more often in people who bite their nails, grind their teeth, or clench their jaws a lot. It is advisable to contact us when this happens.
Wat kost een facing?
The costs of a veneer depend on the type of material used. A composite veneer is cheaper than a porcelain veneer. This is because composite veneers are formed on the spot by the dentist themselves. A porcelain veneer, on the other hand, requires multiple appointments and is made in advance in the dental laboratory.

The placement of veneers is not included in the basic insurance package. You must have supplementary insurance for this. Depending on the insurance conditions of your health insurer, you will then be reimbursed a certain percentage of the costs up to a certain maximum amount per year.
